These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Metheus website, applications, and browser extension (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be legally able to enter into this agreement to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and keep it reasonably up-to-date.

2. Description of the Service

Metheus is a language-learning platform and browser extension that helps users study with subtitles, dictionaries, imported content, decks, and learning workflows. Features may change over time, and some features may be available only in certain plans, devices, or regions.

3. User Content and Imported Media

You retain ownership of content you submit or import, but you grant us a limited license to host, process, store, and transmit that content solely to operate and improve the Service for you. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of imported media, subtitles, decks, and other content complies with copyright law and any third-party terms.

4. Browser Extension Use

The Metheus extension interacts with webpages and media players to provide features such as subtitle extraction, dictionary lookup, and card creation. By installing and using the extension, you authorize those operations within the permissions you grant in your browser. You may disable or uninstall the extension at any time.

5. Subscriptions, Billing, and Refunds

Some features may require a paid plan. Billing and payment processing may be handled by third-party providers such as Lemon Squeezy. Pricing, billing cadence, taxes, trial terms, and refund eligibility (if any) are shown at checkout or in your subscription settings and may be subject to the payment provider's terms.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the Service. This includes, without limitation: attempting unauthorized access; interfering with the Service or other users; uploading malicious code; violating law; infringing intellectual property rights; scraping or abusing the platform in a way that harms performance; or using the Service to distribute illegal content.

7. Marketplace and Shared Content

If Metheus offers shared decks, community content, or a marketplace, additional rules may apply. We may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms, applicable law, or third-party rights. We may also suspend repeat infringers or abusive accounts.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including software, branding, design, and non-user content, is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you ownership of Metheus IP. Some components may include open-source software governed by separate licenses; those licenses continue to apply to the relevant components.

9. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for the Service or other users, or if required by law. You may stop using the Service at any time. Certain provisions (including IP, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will survive termination.

10. Changes to the Service and Terms

We may update the Service, features, pricing, and these Terms from time to time. When we make material updates to these Terms, we may provide notice through the Service or by other reasonable means. Continued use after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Metheus and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business opportunities arising from your use of the Service. Where the law does not allow these limitations, they apply only to the maximum extent permitted.
